Nearby wildfire kept at bay
Firefighters were able to slow the growth of the Blue Bay fire Sunday as they “strengthened and extended” fire lines surrounding the lightning-caused blaze.
As of Tuesday morning, the fire was measured at an estimated 480 acres and was at 40 percent containment.
The fire was caused by lightning on Aug. 10.
Fire Prevention Specialist CT Camel of the Division of Fire said that evacuations for the surrounding homes were not issued.Following a controlled burn, the fire doubled in size due to winds last week.
According to INCIWEB, the fire continued consuming “small pockets of unburned trees and vegetation inside” the fire perimeter.
Aircraft continued to drop water on hot spots, helping to slow the fire’s growth and provide safer conditions for the firefighters constructing fire lines.
A public meeting at the Blue Bay campground was scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
