Team USA member tunes up at Polson Triathlon

Headed into the Polson Triathlon, event organizer Matt Seeley boasted of a competitive women’s and men’s field for this year.

Seeley specifically highlighted the women’s field, which was dominated by Team USA member Erika Ackerlund.

Ackerlund, who ran the race as a tune-up for her next competition in the Netherlands in four weeks, not only won the woman’s field but her time wasn’t even challenged by any of the men either.

Ackerlund wasn’t deterred by windy conditions as she finished with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, 13 seconds and shattered the record book of the Polson Triathlon Saturday morning at Riverside Park.

“As race director, I feel humbled by the incredible community, business and volunteer support for the event, even year after year,” Seeley said.

Ackerlund, who is only 21 years old, will not even enter what is considered the prime of a triathlon participant for another ten years. Joel Bischoff, a 29-year-old male, finished three minutes and 23 seconds behind Ackerlund.

Trent Renshaw, a 37-year-old, finished third with a time of 2 hours, 13.53 minutes. Jesse Carnes finished in fifth place with a time of 2 hours, 14.47 minutes. Well-known Polson triathlon runner Sue Huse, 43, finished sixth with a time of 2 hours, 15.43 minutes.

Rounding out the top 10 was Landon Shipley, a 17-year-old who finished with a time of 2 hours, 20.24 minutes, Timothy McComb, 22, finished with a time of 2 hours, 23.31 minutes and Erin Lyons, a 31-year-old who finished with a time of 2 hours, 24.18 minutes.
