Bulldogs split with Anaconda, Troy

The Mission High School boys basketball team split two games against Troy and Anaconda.

The Bulldogs defeated Troy by a 44-point margin Tuesday night at Mission High School. Mission (3-1) won its conference game 78-33 and was led by Wacey McClure’s 31-point performance.

Another Mission performer that finished with a double-digit night was Flint McPherson, who finished with 14 points. Lucas Vanderburg finished with seven, Jedi Christy had six and Jeremiah Jones finished with two for the victory.

Anaconda 73,

Mission, 46

Mission had an opportunity to extract revenge on Anaconda after falling to them in a 68-63 loss during the 2017 Divisional at Hamilton High School.

The Bulldogs started off the game strong but were unable to keep pace with one of the top-caliber players in the state, Braxton Hill, who was the driving force behind the Copperheads’ second place finish in last year’s Class B state

basketball tournament.

Hill led his Anaconda team to victory with 29 points. Other contributors included Trent Mikalatos, who was the other Copperhead that finished in double-digit scoring with 27 points. Other players that contributed to the victory were Gabe Byrne, who finished with seven points, Kyle Gochanour finished with three and Riley Cobban, Michael Galle and Leroy Wilson also finished with two points each.

Troy 66,

Mission, 49

The Mission Lady Bulldogs lost back-to-back games this week.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Troy 66-49 in their Tuesday night game at Mission High School.

Addison Arlint and Karolyna Buck both scored in double digits. Arlint finished with 17 and Buck finished with 12. Other contributors to the Bulldogs included Sydney Brander with eight, Afton Brander with six and Leila Marsh scored six points in the loss.

Anaconda, 77

Mission, 49

The Mission High School girls basketball team fell to Anaconda 77-29 Thursday night at Anaconda High School.

Afton Brander led the team with 11 points, Buck had five points, Sydney Brander and Leila Marsh scored four points each. Arlint finished with three points, and Alexia Kienitz and Azia Umphrey each scored one point each in the loss.

Lady Pirates fall to Hamilton, Whitefish

The Polson Lady Pirates team dropped two consecutive games to Hamilton and Whitefish.

The Lady Pirates were led by their leading scorer Jaycee Frydelund, who scored 14 points against Hamilton and 17 points in the game against Whitefish.

Other contributors in the contest against Hamilton included Quinn Motichka, who finished with eight. In the loss to Whitefish, Alex Pierre scored eight, Olivia Perez had eight and Motichka finished with four points.

Chiefs split with Libby, Browning

The Ronan High School boys basketball team split their two games this past weekend against Browning and Libby Friday and Saturday night.

In the first game the Chiefs fell to Browning 69-53 Friday night at the Ronan Events Center.

The Chiefs were led by three players in the 69-53 loss to Browing. Ezekiel Misa led the team with a total of 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. Anthony Camel and Dallas Durheim both finished with 13 points each in the loss.

The Chiefs responded to the loss with a 66-52 victory over the Libby Loggers Saturday afternoon at the Ronan Events Center.

Anthony Camel nearly got a double double as he led the Chiefs with 21 points and seven rebounds on the night.

Other contributors included Perry Panzetanga. Panzetanga scored 12 and Misa finished with 10 in the victory. The Ronan Chiefs will continue to work building one of their biggest strengths as they prepare to enter the Christmas break: their depth.

Like last season, the Chiefs have a tremendous amount of depth that they hope to capitilize on. Wassum said he hopes to make some adjustments as they prepare for the second half of the season and still continue to get acclimated to the Class A level and the challenges it brings. The Chiefs look to be ready for the second half.
