Lady Vikings dominate Red Devils

The Charlo High School Lady Vikings basketball team defeated Noxon 46-18 to conclude the first half of the team’s season.

The Lady Vikes had only one player in double digits on the night but several contributors that closed in on scoring 10 to contribute to the victory over the Lady Red Devils.

Carlee Fryberger led the team scoring a total of 10 points. Tyrah Hammond and Destiny Manual both scored seven points each in the win. These three players accounted for 24 of the team’s 46 points. Other players contributing were Kaitlin Cox and Adrianna Johnson, who both finished the victory and the first half of the season with six points.

Charlo bests Plains in critical early-season road win

The Charlo Lady Vikings defeated Plains 44-37 in a critical early season conference road victory Saturday night.

Cox scored 19 of the team’s 44 points on the night. Other significant point contributors included Fryberger, who finished with six, Hammond had five and Sakoya Gaustad finished with four.

The Lady Vikings also defeated Two Eagle 59-11 for their final game headed into the break. The victory now makes Charlo 4-2 on the season as they open the second half of play hosting Seeley-Swan and then traveling to play conference rival Arlee.

Bulldogs split to end first half of season

The Mission High School boys basketball team split their final two games of the first half defeating Hot Springs 69-30 and falling to Florence 67-45.

In the Bulldogs’ (4-2) 39-point victory over Hot Springs, they were led by Wacey McClure, who finished with 26 points on the night and Jacob Hugs was the other Mission player in double-digits with 12 points. Lucas Vanderburg scored eight points and Layne Spidel and Jeremiah Jones each contributed with six.

In the 67-45 loss to Florence, the Bulldogs were led by McClure, who finished with 11. Jedi Christy had 10, Mitchel Parker finished with seven and Flint McPherson scored six in the loss.

Lady Bulldogs split with Hot Springs, Florence

The Lady Bulldogs finished the first half of the season with a 2-4 record.

This season, Mission has increased its strength of schedule by playing in one of the most prestigious tournaments in both Class C and Class B, the Native American Classic earlier in the season.

The Lady Bulldogs had significant contributions by Karolyna Buck, who led the team with double-digit point production with 16 points. Afton Brander finished with 14 points and Sydney Brander finished the night with seven points. Azia Umphrey also finished with nine points in the win.

Mission showcased its significant improvement from a season ago by competing with one of Class B’s elite teams.

The Lady Bulldogs may have lost to Florence 63-50 but the significant part in the loss is that Buck eclipsed the 200-point plateau on her carer.

The senior leader teamed up with Addison Arlint to be the only one of the Bulldogs to score in double-figures. Buck led the team with 15 points, Arlint finished with 10, Sydney Brander had eight and Umphrey finished with six points. The Mission Lady Bulldogs will look to continue to improve as they approach the second-half of the season on Jan. 2 against Arlee High School.
