The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of fraudulent phone scams.

According to a press release from Lake County Sheriff Don Bell, LCSO have seen an uptick in phone scams.

Bell stated that scam phone call receivers can determine these fraudulent calls by the following:

When someone asks for a money transfer or to cash a check.

The imposter states they are from the Internal Revenue Service, and taxes are owed, and an arrest warrant is out.

Sweepstakes where a person is told they won a prize but need to send a processing fee or tax to claim the prize.

Bell urges receivers of these types of calls to ask financial institutions to verify if sent checks are valid when doing business over the internet.

If it is too good to be true it probably is,” he concluded.
