GEORGE RICHARD “BUCK” SNYDER

On November 22, 2016, George Richard “Buck” Snyder passed from this life into eternity from causes incident to age, in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was born Feb. 14, 1931, to George Rufus Snyder and Mamie Ann Ernester in Glendive, Mont. He was given the nickname Junior as a youngster and later the nickname Buck, which is what most people called him.

Dad had an older brother, Johnny, and when Dad was about 8-years-old, Grandpa and the boys moved to the beautiful Mission Valley. The ladies of the valley doted on them—bringing pies, cakes and meals.

Dad served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was given an early discharge when his older brother, Johnny, died from complications of surgery. Thereafter, on Oct. 7, 1953, Dad married Alice Jane Redekop. To this union were born five children. They later divorced. Dad later adopted Orvel “Ed” (Busby) Snyder.

Dad loved the land. He taught us how to work hard and that it was through hard work we would be able to afford the needs and some wants of life. Our ranch was off Highway 93 between Pablo and Polson. There was a sign at the end of the lane that had our brand and the name of the ranch “Buck and the Bank.” Many people would come up the lane to meet us and to tell us how funny they found the sign.

Later Dad changed occupations and operated heavy equipment for many years and for many different companies. There wasn’t anything mechanical he couldn’t operate. He also developed a love of woodworking. He truly enjoyed doing that, until his eyesight failed, making that impossible.

Dad never did stop loving our mother. She passed away May 26, 1996. He was also predeceased by his two sons, Richard Snyder and Randy Snyder. He had a close relationship with his daughter, Glenda (Glenn) Anderson, Idaho Falls, Idaho and Ed (Heather) Snyder Dechard, Tenn.

Pursuant to his request he was cremated and no services were held. He will be interred in his father’s plot in Polson at a later date.
