NELLIE JEAN BROWN STOKES

Nellie Jean Brown Stokes, 95, of Pablo, passed away at Missoula on Feb. 17. Nellie was born on Dec. 10, 1921, at Stevensville, the tenth child of 13 to Walter Brown and Etna Shaffer. She married Roy Stokes in 1938 in Bothwell, Utah, and they made their home in Burley, Idaho, until moving to the Mission Valley in 1945. In 1954 they moved to Seeley Lake and in 1973 they returned to Utah. Nellie returned to Montana in 1983, living there until she moved to Concrete, Wash., and then came back to the valley living in Arlee before moving to Pablo in 1999.

 She is preceded in death by her husband in 1987, six grand and great grandchildren, and her siblings Earl, Homer, Ray, Riley, Walter James, George (Bill), Lucy, Thelma, Ada, and Faye.  Survivors include her children Jody, Lloyd, and Jean of Washington; Leathy of Bozeman; Roxey of Billings; Joseph of Dixon; Richard (Dick) of Seeley Lake; Gerry of Arlee; and Larry, Ruth, Faye and James Leo of the Mission Valley; two sisters Doris Matz of Anaconda and Pearl Dielmen of Lewiston, Idaho. 

Affectionately known as Grandma Peacocks she is also survived by 48 grandchildren, 92 great grandchildren, 61 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild.

Visitation will be Friday at Foster Funeral Home in St. Ignatius with funeral services being held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
