(Because of our injuries) some of our younger kids were able to get a bunch of varsity matches in,” Pirates’ Coach Bob Owen said. “We only won two of seven dual meets.”

Owens said he had a few standout performances. Parker Adler lost to the No. 1 seeded player Sawyer Deegan.

“He got beat a little worse than he did the first time and was pretty competitive,” Owen said. “Parker actually wrestled well against him. Towards the end of the match Deegen was starting to run out of juice before he eventually won.”

Owen said he is looking forward to this Saturday’s dual with Ronan at Polson High School.

“They were a traditional rival and now they will be coming back to our level,” Owen said. “That is going to be neat for our community.”

The Pirates are still missing 160-pounder Fritsch, who turned his ankle. RJ Pierre, the Pirates 103-pounder, dislocated his elbow and Cameron Brown is recovering from perineal-nerve damage sustained from accidentally shooting himself in the left leg.

“Pierre is healthy and will be back in the lineup ,” Owen said. “It would make a huge difference. We have two 103-pounders that can place in state. Kedric Baker has the capability of placing at state as well.”

Headed into the final stretch of the regular season, Owen said he felt his team could finish strong if they can get everyone back.

“Like I told you, it’s going to depend on if we can get some of our wrestlers healthy and if we can can compete with them,” Owen said.

The Pirates will also welcome back 170-pound wrestler Colby Garcia to the team

“He did quite well at state his freshman year,” Owen said. “He has taken some time off now and is sure wrestling is what he wants to do. I still feel like we can be in the hunt come tournament time. We were runners-up last year and most of the kids are back, if we can just stay healthy.”
