SOUTH FORK PRIMITIVE AREA OF THE JOCKO CLOSED

The Division of Fire would like to let the public know that the South Fork Primitive Area of the Jocko is closed to vehicle traffic and recreation. There are two lightning caused fires in the area, the Liberty Fire and the South Fork Fire. The fires are relatively small in size and the DOF will update the public as the situation progresses.

FAIR ENTRY DEADLINE

Who’s the best? Share your artistic talents and gardening expertise with the Mission Valley. There’s still time to enter the Open Class Divisions at the 2017 Lake County Fair. Deadline for entry is 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20. You need to be a resident of Lake County. Open class items must be the work of the exhibitor. Entries must have been made within the past two years and should be original and creative. Entry items could be; Art work, crafts, culinary, floriculture, photography and many other areas. Pick up a Fair Premium Book to see what you can enter! Fair books can be found at local businesses. You can find Entry forms by visiting lakemt.gov, in the Fair Premium book, or by contacting the Fair Office at 676–8660.

LIBRARY HOSTS “MOTHER GOOSE TIME”

North Lake County Public Library will host “Mother Goose Time,” a half-hour program on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. for infants and toddlers. For more information, call 406-883-8225.

JACKET USE

The Boat Us Foundation and Prov-idence St. Joseph Medical Center’s Emergency Department have partnered with a free life jacket loaner program. Life jackets from infant on up are available to borrow and return at the St. Joseph Emergency Department, seven days-a-week. Stop in at No. 6, 13th Ave East, Polson and keep your family safe on the water this summer.

ST. IGNATIUS

SKATE JAM

On Saturday, July 22 from noonish to 4 p.m., there will be a Skate Jam at the Skate Ignatius Skatepark in St. Ignatius.

This event marks the tenth Anniversary of the opening of our beloved skatepark and is hosted by Board of Missoula, formerly Edge of the World. The Jam will have multiple contests and lots of free prizes, as well as free hot dogs and drinks while they last! Whether you skate or just want to admire the mad skating skills that will be on display, everyone is welcome.

This event is also running concurrently with the Good Old Days celebration so there are many reasons to come and enjoy our town. For more information, call Kristie Nerby at 745-4888.

BIG ARM SUMMER CONCERT

The Big Arm Association will be holding a Summer Concert at our historic Big Arm School on Saturday, July 22 at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by Charles Lutz and friends. They will be playing a mixture of country, rock and roll, and patriotic music. We will be serving ice cream from The COVE with all the fixings during intermission. BOWHUNTER EDUCATION CLASS

The last Bowhunter Education class for 2017 in Lake County is scheduled for July 25, 27, and 29. That’s Tuesday evening 6:00 to 9:00, Thursday evening same times, and Saturday is a Field Course from 8 AM until Noon. The evening classes will be held at Polson VFW Hall, 423 Main Steet in Polson. Students will be given directions to the Field Course location on Thursday evening.

Students can sign up on the Montana FWP website at fwp.mt.gov, and click on the Education tab, or at the following address: http://my.register-ed.com/event/studentchooseevent. Students are asked to pre-register online and pick up and read a manual prior to the first night. Anyone under age 18 will need the written authorization of a parent or guardian, which can be accomplished the first night of class. Students must attend all three sessions of the course, and must pass a written test given on Saturday. There is no cost for the class.

By Montana State law, all first time bowhunters, regardless of age, must pass he Bowhunter Education course in order to purchase an archery license in Montana. For more infortmation, contact Larry Rattray 261-7199.

MISSION MOUNTAIN QUILT SHOW

The Mission Mountain Quilt Show will take place Saturday, July 29 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. at K. William Harvey Elementary gymnasium in Ronan. Deleen Winters will be the featured quilter. The theme will be “Sharing the love of Quilting through Curves.” Please come and vote for your favorite quilt on Friday. The show is free to attend.
