Charlo track teams have strong showing at state meet
A multiple number of coaches will look at how teams do in the track season as a good barometer to how teams will perform in the Class-C, 8-man football season.
With that in mind, it is no surprise the Vikings track & field team had a number of members from the football team that finished second in the Class-C, 8-man competition this past fall.
One of the Vikings’ biggest track stars was quarterback Landers Smith, who qualified for three individual events including pole vault, 100-meter dash, and 200-meter dash.
One event that the Vikings’ QB and track star excelled in all season was the pole vault. At the state event, Smith, tied for second clearing a distance of 12 feet.
Smith finished 10th in the 100-meter dash recording a time of 12.35 seconds.
Smith finished 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.86 seconds and 8th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.29 seconds.
Smith was also a member of a 4X100 and a 4X400 relay team and both teams finished second and third, respectively.
Vikings’ Toby Odom finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.52 seconds and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43 seconds.
The 4X100 meter relay team, which consisted of Garett Vaughan, Toby Odom, Jared Doty and Smith finished behind Ennis recording a time of 45.16 seconds. Ennis was the team that was crowned the champions of the Class-C, 8-man football season in 2016.
The 4X400 relay team of Bridger Foust, Odom, Doty and Smith finished second with a time of 3 minutes, 34.64 seconds. The team fell to Seeley-Swan’s team that finished first with a time of 3 minutes, 32.84 seconds.
Wills Degrandpre finished 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 55.78 seconds and in the 3200 recorded a time of 10 minutes, 24.81 seconds, to place fifth.
Arlee Warriors’ Thomas Knoll finished 17th in the high jump recording a distance of 38 feet, 3.25 inches.
Lady Vikings Delaney takes second in the 300-meter hurdles
The Charlo girls, boys track team entered the Class A & C track meet as one of the teams with the most storied tradition at the state meet Thursday through Friday at the Laurel Complex at Laurel High School.
The Charlo girls team entered with not only tradition but one of their top commodities, Allie Delaney.
Delaney participated in a grand total of six track and field events, including four individual events at state.
Delaney, who finished with a total of seven first-place finishes during the regular season in the 300-meter hurdles, captured second in the 300 and recorded a time of 47.72 seconds.
Delaney had three more top-10 individual performances at State including a 9th place finish in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 28.18 seconds, and a 9th place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.49 seconds.
Delaney was also a member of the 4X100 relay team and the 4X400 relay team that all season was known for its speed. The 4X100 relay team that consisted of Kaitlin Cox, Tyrah Hammond, and Kara Tatukivei had two first-place finishes as a team in the regular season. The group finished 8th in the State relay with a time of 52.13 seconds.
Delaney was also a member of the 4X400 relay team that consisted of Tatukivei, Nagy, Hammond and Delaney with a time of 4 minutes, 23.16 seconds, en route to an 8th place finish.
