Mariners take two, drop pair over weekend
This past weekend, the Mission Valley Mariners competed in a pair of conference doubleheaders with mixed results. This past Saturday in the Garden City, they were toppled twice by the Mavericks A squad in Missoula by scores of 10-6 and 7-6. The Mariners were holding on to a two run edge entering the final frame of the nightcap with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when the host Mavs rallied for three runs to nip their upstart visitors.
On Sunday, the Mariners played host to the Bandits from Cranbrook, in what was a last-minute home game organized and they captured both contests 14-3 and 15-13. The Mariners were firmly in control of the first game from its onset, scoring four runs in the first inning but the second of the twin bill was a see-saw affair in which the Mariners led early, then were forced to rally from a three-run deficit in the fifth to pull out the victory. Jacob Harrod and Tyson Petticrew collaborated on a half dozen hits for an equal number of RBIs in that contest.
The preceding weekend was spent at the Cranbrook Tournament in the beautiful province of British Columbia, where the team won one of its trio of games.
The Mariners will host the Missoula A Mavericks for a doubleheader on Saturday, June 11, starting at 1pm, when they hope to extract a bit of payback for their back-to-back losses to the Missoula teams.
