An Arlee man wanted for sex offenses was apprehended last week by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers after attempting to cross the border from Canada at the Sweetgrass Port of Entry, according to a press release issued Monday.
Curtis Milton Smith, 60, was transferred to Lake County Jail on March 7, where his bail was set at $200,000, court documents state.
A warrant was issued for Smith on Jan. 23, after he was charged on two counts of sexual offenses involving children. Each charge against Smith carries a minimum 25-year prison sentence during which time he is not eligible for parole. An arraignment in Lake County District Court was scheduled for March 15.
