Remember Dan Rather? Well, his hour long AXS TV “Immigration Report” last week was epic. He shed a great light on why Trump was elected POTUS.
Just briefly: In 1965 LBJ signed into law “The Immigration and Nationality Act.” This Hart-Celler Act (it’s authors) abolished the quota system based on national origin that had been our policy since the 1920’s.
An up-to-date statistic: In the year 2008, 54 percent of Americans were “White-Christians.” In the year 2016, this has dropped to 45%. Trump’s “Making America Great Again” awakened huge groups of Americans right in their fear and anger mind-sets.
“Those foreigners are our problem! They take our jobs. They up our crime rate.”
Our original emigrants were mostly North and Western European. From 1965 on, things changed. Many more Asian and Hispanic people entered our country. And now we have the timing of “The Rise of Trump.” He preached border walls, jobs for everyone, lower crime, and a better life as we “Make America Great Again.” A new age of “class divide” and “American divide” was born and much of America was asleep.
I think Dan Rather’s deep and thoughtful analysis really hit a home run in the ball park of present politics.
