Tribes form AIS team
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Natural Resources Department has established a technical team of scientists and managers to focus primarily on the potential risk of aquatic invasive species like quagga and zebra mussels in Flathead Lake.
This season, the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Technical Team will continue to provide public education and share information about the potential risk of AIS in the water bodies of the Flathead Reservation.
The AIS Technical Team has scheduled a community meeting in order to help anglers and boaters enhance their understanding of the recent findings of mussels in Canyon Ferry and Tiber Reservoirs and the risk of AIS to Flathead Lake.
The meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28 at KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson, from 6-8 p.m.
Members of the CSKT AIS Technical Team will also provide a report on the ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species and avoid the severe damage to local ecosystems, tourism and industry.
