Vikings, Lady Vikings excel in Frenchtown
FRENCHTOWN — For the Charlo track and field boys team, the usual suspects again turned in solid performances Friday afternoon at Big Sky-6 at Frenchtown High School.
Smith finished the Big Sky-6 meet with three personal records. Smith PRed in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.76 en route to a first place finish. Smith also finished in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.63.
Smith set another personal record in going 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault.
Thompson said he felt it was another “good” performance for Smith.
“Landers had another good meet and we are still kind of trying a few things with some of our participants,” Vikings’ Coach Bret Thompson said. “We are also trying to give some of our players a little bit of a break.”
Thompson was “happy” with the overall performance of his team.
“Everyone had a good meet and we all competed in four events in the last meet,” Thompson said. “We’ve had some times where the weather hasn’t been that great and that makes it harder. Our players have gotten to experience a little bit of everything.”
Thompson said he was also “impressed” with the performance of Toby Odom.
Odom finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.83. Odom finished second with a PR of 43.83 in the 300-meter hurdles.
Brady Fryberger finished seventh in the discus with a personal record of 116 feet, 10 inches. Kane Shenyer finished fifth and PRed in the discus with a throw of 121 feet, 5 inches.
Chandler Krahn PRed in the shot put and discus. Krahn finished with a throw of 35 feet, 9 inches in the shot put. Krahn also threw the discus 101 feet, 11 inches.
Delaney takes first in 300
Charlo Lady Vikings 300-meter runner Allie Delaney finished first with a time of 49.38 seconds Fridayafternoon at the Big Sky-6 meet at Frenchtown High School.
“It was a good solid meet for her,” Thompson said of Delaney’s performance.
Duffey qualifies for state in 1,600, 3,200
Ronan High School runner Jackson Duffey qualified for state in both the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter events Saturday at the A.R.M. Invitational in Whitefish.
Duffey finished fourth and PRed in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4 minutes, 39.50 seconds. Duffey qualified for state in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 10 minutes, 20.91 en route to a first place finish.
Collin McGuyer finished second and PRed in the 200-meter dash. McGuyer recorded a time of 23.58 seconds.
Steven Flesch also finished sixth in the triple jump leaping 38 feet, 7 inches.
McCready and Camel shine in A.R.M. Invite
Ronan distance runner Ashley McCready finished sixth in the 1,600-meter race recording a time of 5 minutes, 50.87 seconds. McCready finished fifth in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 12 minutes, 51.03 seconds.
Lee Camel is slowly progressing from her injury she suffered in basketball and she is starting to excel in the events as a result of her recovery.
Camel finished third in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 10 inches.
