Pirates tracksters shine at Ronan's Lake County track meet
The Polson High School track team dominated the Lake County Meet Tuesday at Ronan High School.
The Pirates’ boys team finished with a total of nine first place finishes out of 17 total in the meet.
Polson competed against some of the best athletes the valley offers in Class B and Class C that included some of the top-caliber athletes from Arlee, Charlo, Mission, and Ronan, and finished the meet as the valley team with the most hardware.
Tanner Wilson and Matthew Rensvold, two athletes signed to the University of Montana Grizzles’ football team for the 2017-2018 season, showcased their superior speed. The duo finished first and second in the 100-meter dash. Wilson clocked a first place finishing time of 11.64 seconds. Rensvold finished second and barely eclipsed Charlo’s Landers Smith.
Rensvold recorded a second place time of 11.82 seconds and Smith placed just behind Rensvold for a third place finish with a time of 11.85. Polson’s Danny DiGiallonardo and Ronan’s Collin McGuyer finished out the top-5 places. DiGiallonardo finished fourth with a time of 11.89 seconds and McGuyer finished with a time of 12.03 seconds.
Three participants also finished the dash with personal records. Pirate runner Bo Kelley finished 8th with a time of 12.78 seconds, Nicolla Righetto from Ronan finished 10th with a time of 13.08 seconds, and Ronan’s Pietu Nissi finished last but still PRed. Nissi recorded a time of 14.05 seconds.
After placing second in the 100-meter dash, Rensvold won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.55 seconds. McGuyer finished second with a time of 23.98 seconds, Smith recorded a third place time of 24.03 seconds. Kyle Druyvestein, from Polson, finished fourth and recorded a personal record of 24.42 seconds. Vikings’ runner Jared Doty placed fifth with a time of 24.89 seconds. The other PR in the race was Pirate runner Dugan Davis, who finished the race with a personal record of 24.92 seconds.
Rensvold finished first in the 400-meter dash recording a time of 53.49 seconds. Rensvold’s teammate Ryker Wenderoth recorded a personal record with a time of 56.61 seconds. Other participants that finished in the top 5 included Polson’s Alex Wall-Wilbert with a time of 57.03 seconds, Charlo’s Zane Hafliger with a time of 58.11 seconds, and Ronan’s Jack Noland recorded a personal record with a time of 58.53 seconds. Other runners recording a PR in the event include Jason Miller, Seth Lake, and CJ Forgey.
Duffey shines in 800, 1600 meters
Ronan High School distance runner Jackson Duffey captured first place in both the 800-meter dash and 1600-meter run. Duffey won both distance events in a log-jammed competitive field that was packed with personal records.
Duffey won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 5 seconds, a personal record. Polson’s Quin Stewart finished eight seconds behind Duffey for a second place finish with a time of 2 minutes, 13 seconds. Charlo’s Wills Degrandpre and Bridger Foust finished third and fourth. Degrandpre finished with a time of 2 mintues, 20 seconds and Foust had a time of 2 minutes, 21 seconds. Pirates’ runner Landon Shipley rounded off the top 5 recording a time of 2 minutes, 24 seconds. Other racers that recorded a PR included Polson’s Caleb Unger, Ronan’s Kolby Reum, Ronan’s D’Artagan Dominguez Julian Bisson, and Polson’s Daniel Pepion.
Duffey finished the 1600 with a time of 4 minutes, 43 seconds. The 1600 was dominated by the Chiefs with Dennis finishing second with a time of 5 minutes, 7 seconds, James Normandeau with a time of 5 minutes, 9 seconds, Kiry Detwiler had 5 minutes, 11 seconds, and Foust recorded a PR, and capped off the top 5 with a time of 5 minutes, 13 seconds. Other racers that recorded a PR in the events included Ronan’s Darius Ramsey, Two Eagles’ Tristan George, and Arlee’s Michael Matt.
Stewart captures 3200
Polson’s Quin Stewart won the 3200 event capturing a personal record with a time of 10 minutes, 32 seconds. Ronan’s Nathan Dennis finished second with a time of 10 minutes, 35 seconds, Charlo’s Wills Degrandpre placed third with a time of 10 minutes, 37 seconds, Normandeau finished fourth with a time of 10 minutes, 58 seconds, and Detwiler finished the top 5 with a time of 11 minutes, 13 seconds. Stewart, Dennis, Degrandpre, Normandeau, Detwiler, Charlo’s Connor Koenig, Polson’s Andrew Reed, and Ronan’s Jesper Elger all PRed in the event.
Lanier takes 110-meter, 300 hurdles
Pirates’ Connor Lanier captured the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.55 seconds. Charlo’s Garrett Vaughn and Toby Odom finished second and third with times of 18.14 and 18.22 and Mission’s Darius Redstar and Isaac Dumontier finished fourth. Redstar finished with a time of 20.07 and Dumontier had a time of 20.28 seconds.
Lanier PRed with a time of 41.83 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and other track participants that PRed include Odom and Mission’s Isaac Dumontier.
Pirates, Chiefs win relays
The Polson Pirates captured the 4X100 relay with a time of 44.4 seconds. Ronan ended up winning the 4X400 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 38 seconds.
Durglo captures first in the shot put
Mission shot put thrower Michael Durglo won the shot put competition with a throw of 45 feet, 1 inches. Durglo defeated Pirates’ Rensvold, who threw 40 feet, 7 inches and recorded a PR for the season. Ronan’s Landon Lynch finished third with a throw of 36 feet, 5 inches, Charlo’s Chandler Krahn had a throw of 35 feet, 1.5 inches, and Vikings’ Kane Shenyer threw 35 feet, 1 inches. Other PRs in the event include Ronan’s Jarrett Richey, and Two Eagle participants Spencer Butler and Zion Bolen.
Vikings Shenyer takes first in discus
Charlo High School Kane Sheynyer captured first and PRed in the discus with a throw of 121 feet, 7 inches. Mission’s Michael Durglo placed second throwing 119 feet, 2 inches, Charlo’s Brady Fryberger threw 111 feet, 8 inches, Ronan’s Landon Lynch PRed with a throw of 104, 7 inches. Polson’s Elijah Goodbird had a throw of 102 feet, 4 inches. Other discus throwers that PRed in the event included Ronan’s Jarrett Richey, Polson’s Zane Benson, and Ronan’s Samuel Mocabee.
Durglo takes first in jav
Mission High School javelin thrower Michael Durglo captured first place in the javelin with a throw of 133, 8 inches. Rounding out the top 5 were Arlee’s Tyler Potts and Brian Baker. Potts threw 124 feet, 1 inch and Baker recorded a distance of 124 feet, 1 inch. Krahn finished fourth and PRed at 116 feet, 3 inches and Ronan’s Jarrett Richey threw 114 feet, three inches. Other PRs included Bo Kelley and Austin Taylor.
Fisher takes first in high jump
Arlee high jumper Isaac Fisher captured first in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches. Polson’s Tyler Bledsoe and Seth Lake finished second and third. Bledsoe levitated to 5 feet, 6 inches, and Lake recorded a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches. Arlee’s Brian Baker and Brady Fryberger also finished in the top 5. Baker had a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches and Fryberger had a 5-foot leap. Ronan’s Ezra Vanlent finished sixth and PRed with a jump of 5 feet.
Smith takes first in pole vault
Charlo High School’s Landers Smith took first place in the pole vault. Smith cleared 12 feet, 6 inches. The nearest competitor to Smith was Ronan’s Collin McGuyer, who cleared 11 feet. Arlee’s Thomas Knoll finished third with a jump of 10 feet, 6 inches, Charlo’s Garett Vaughn PRed at 10 feet, 6 inches, and Polson’s Tyler Bledsoe cleared 9 feet, 6 inches.
DiGiallonardo places first in long jump
Polson’s Danny DiGiallonardo placed first in the long jump leaping 19 feet, 8.5 inches.
Ronan’s Steven Flesch finished second behind DiGiallonardo, who recorded a jump of 18 feet, 5 inches. Polson’s Ryker Wenderoth jumped 17 feet, 4.5 inches. Other top-5 finishes in the long jump included Mission’s Darius Redstar, who jumped 17 feet, 1.5 inches and Pirates’ Parker Toth jumped 17 feet, 1 inches.
Other PRs in the event included Ronan’s Julian Bisson and D’Artagan Dominguez.
Flesch captures triple jump
Ronan High School jumper Steven Flesch finished first in the triple jump clearing 38 feet, 8 inches. Charlo’s Jared Doty finished second with a jump of 37 feet. Arlee’s Madiah Morin and Thomas Knoll finished third and fourth.
Morin finished with jumps totaling 36 feet, 8 inches and Knoll finished with 36 feet, 4.25 inches. Polson’s Ryker Wenderoth rounded out the top 5 with a jump of 35 feet, 11.5 inches. The other PR in the competition was Ronan’s Julian Bisson.
