Students in the St. Ignatius district have donated more than 3,000 pounds of food to the Mission Food Bank.

During Homecoming week each year, students at St. Ignatius Middle School compete in a food drive where a pizza party is awarded to the highest-donating class.

This year, sixth grade students will get a pizza party for donating 1,408 items.

The seventh grade class donated 1,369 and eighth graders gave 1,107 items.

The 3,884 donations consisted largely of canned goods, eggs and potatoes.

Previously, the school record for donated goods was 2,000 items.
