Native American vets recognized
More than 30 Native American veterans were recognized Tuesday morning at Kicking Horse Jobs Corps in Ronan, as they were escorted by students to an assembly and then to lunch.
Pharmacy Technician Instructor Tracy Frank said that students addressed invitations by hadn that were sent to 270 veterans, who were invited to the event in honor of Native American Veteran’s Day, which was Tuesday.
“I came up with the idea to do this last year b ecause I want students to understand why they have Veteran’s Day off,” Frank said, adding that she also wants students to understand how much veterans have sacrificed for others.
All of the more than 100 students at the center were invovled in the day’s festivities, Frank said.
An art contest and essay contest were held among the students, and entries were organized into booklets that were handed out to the veterans.
Frank said that one of her favorite outcomes of the event is watching a younger generation interact and learn stories from an older generation, having an “active conversation.”
