Robert Aloys Tiernan, 85

| November 16, 2017 4:00 AM

Born Robert Aloys Tiernan, to Robert Michael and Anna Walsh Tiernan, on September 30, 1932 in Missoula Montana. He was the oldest of 2 children. A dear and loving husband, nurturing and sensitive father, kind and supportive brother and a devoted friend to many. He was known for his calm and present spirit, sincere interest in people and love of all things outdoors. His life was marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence, truth and the extension of his goodwill to those in need. He graciously gave of his time and talents to all those that came in his presence and he left a lifelong and indelible impression on many. To know Rob, was to touch grace. To witness his athleticism while skiing was to truly understand perfection in motion personified.
The Big Mountain and Snowmass were his canvasses for the artistry that would become his legacy. Each soul he touched has a story to tell of his enduring support and encouragement to become a better version of themselves. His fondest memories remained his days on the mountain, picnics on the beach in the Baja and lingering sunsets over Cat Bay with his family. Rob passed peacefully on November 1, 2017 surrounded by deep and abiding love.
He is survived by his wife Carol Nelson Tiernan; his son, Robert, and grandchildren Michelle and Greyson. He is also survived by his sister Margaret T. Armstrong (John), and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held this next summer on Flathead Lake to share memories and celebrate Rob’s life.
Messages of condolence and memories of Rob may be sent to the family online at www.lakefuneralhomeandcremation.com. Arrangements are under the care of The Lake Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson.
