Hundreds of people lined up outside Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply in Polson Saturday over the span of two hours for hamburgers and hot dogs that were cooked up for a good deal.

Each year, local organizations are provided the opportunity to benefit from the fundraiser, explained John Miller of the Marine Corps League Hellroaring Detachment 1041.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and a drink cost a quarter, but Miller said that many of those who attended Saturday were donating more.

“It goes for our scholarship program and Toys for Tots,” he said, adding that after 12 p.m. he was unable to pin down an estimate of how many people had attended the event, which ran from 11-1 p.m.

About 10 volunteers worked in shifts to cook and serve the food.

Miller explained that food and drink were supplied by Murdoch’s.

Lonnie Erikson, assistant manager of Murdoch’s, said that this is the third cookout the Polson location has hosted for local nonprofits since June.

“It’s just kind of Murdoch’s way of giving back,” he said, noting that the store purchased 600 hamburgers and 300 hot dogs, most of which were sold in the two-hour span Saturday.

“There is no out-of-pocket for the Marines,” Miller said, adding all he had to do was supply volunteers.

“It works out great,” he said. “The money stays here in Lake County.”
