PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE

North Lake County Public Library in Polson is holding a peanut butter drive the week of September 11-16. All contributions from this weeklong event will be donated to the Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry. The library has partnered with the pantry on several earlier occasions. Patrons with overdue items or fines on their cards are encouraged to bring sealed jars of peanut butter (or other commercially prepared, nonperishable food items) to the circulation desk. Fines will be reduced by one dollar for each item donated. Please note that forgiveness of fines does not include lost or damaged items. Patrons without fines are also encouraged to join this event to help replenish the Food Pantry’s supply of peanut butter, a much-needed staple all year long. The library will take the opportunity to add peanut-related cookbooks to its collection. Please call 406-883-8225 for more information.

If you haven’t been to a coloring session before, we would love to have you! For more information, call the library at 406-883-8225.

PACHYDERM CLUB MEETING

Lake County Commissioner Bill Barron will be the featured speaker at the Friday, September 8 noon meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club at the Polson Rural Fire Department Building, 25 Regatta Road.

He will tell the community how it came to be that the Annual UM Aber Day Kegger and Reunion Concert came to Polson and how long it is expected to remain at the Polson site. He will also let us know how the concrete stage came to be built at the Fairgrounds where hydro plane boat racing used to be held and where floatplanes currently stop for repairs, refueling, and mooring.

This stage was also utilized by the Flathead Lake Blues Festival a week later and other outdoor acts will be coming in the future. He may be able to give an idea of the economic impact this will have on Polson. Everyone who wants to learn about this new endeavor is invited to attend the meeting.

ART DOCENT PROGRAM

The Art Docent Program is a volunteer based art history program that allows students to become immersed in art, through classroom instruction. In this program a docent is a volunteer that is trained to present art related information and lessons in the classroom.

If you enjoy working with children and being creative, (or know someone who does) this is a great opportunity! This program requires no background in art, just an interest in or love of art. Docents will attend four workshops during the course of the year where they will practice an art history related lesson and learn how to present the lesson in a classroom. They will coordinate with the teacher they are assigned to and set up a time and day (within a two month period) to do the lesson. Docents will present four art history based lessons during the school year. Team teaching with another docent is a possibility as well.

If you are interested and would like to find out more about the program there will be an informational meeting on September 13 at 10 a.m. in the Cherry Valley Library. OR September 12 at 9 a.m. in the Linderman library. Please sign up by Sept. 11th using the e-mail below. (Leave your name, e-mail address, phone number and which meeting you would like to attend)

We have several community volunteers in the program and are looking for a few more volunteers this year. To find out more info or to sign up come to an informational meeting on Tuesday Sept 19 in the Linderman library at 2:30 p.m.
