Mission, Arlee shine at Jim Johnson Invitational

There were several top-10 finishes among Lake County competitors at the Jim Johnson Invitational at Frenchtown High School.

Mission High School’s Trance Bird finished in tenth place in the boy’s 200-meter varsity recording a time of 25.47 seconds.

The Bulldogs 4X400 relay team also finished tenth recording a time of 4 minutes, 11.73 seconds. The relay team consists of Isaiah Nasateweya, Connor Burke, Denzel Lefthand and Austin Elverud.

The Lake County boys’ team excelled in the throwing events of the Jim Johnson Invitational, placing several participants in the top 10.

Bulldogs’ thrower Michael Durglo threw 45 feet, 8.75 inches to finish third behind Austin Forson of Powell County, who finished second recording a throw of 46 feet, 7 inches and Jesse Mecham of Frenchtown, who had a throw of 50 feet, 3 inches. Durglo proceeded to finish third in the discus recording a throw of 123 feet, 3 inches and then finished second in the javelin event, throwing 146 feet, 9 inches, a personal record for Durglo.

Bulldogs Bird and Flint McPherson finished in the top 10 in the men’s long jump. McPherson recorded a jump of 19 feet, 1 inch and Bird finished ninth with a leap of 18 feet, 7 inches.

The Bulldogs had two competitors that finished in the top 10 in the high jump. Darius Redstar, who finished sixth, leaped to a distance of 38 feet, 7.50 inches and Flint McPherson finished right behind Redstar, recording a jump of 38 feet, 7.25 inches.

Arlee High School’s Jason Miller narrowly missed finishing in the top 10 with a jump of 36 feet, 6.50 inches.

Buck excels in season opener

Mission High School track member Karolyna Buck had four top-10 finishes in her first meet of the season at the Jim Johnson Invitational Thursday at Frenchtown High School.

Buck finished second in the high jump clearing a distance of 5 feet even. Buck also excelled in three running events finishing fifth in the 1600-meters with a time of 6 minutes, 5.39 seconds, sixth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2 minutes, 49.33 seconds and seventh in the 400-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 10.78 seconds.

Sydney Brander finished fifth with a time of 13.74 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Brander proceeded to place ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 13.46 seconds.

Arlee’s Malachi DeRoche finished eighth in the 3200-meter run recording a time of 18 minutes, 9.50 seconds, which was also a personal record.

St. Ignatius finished 10th in the 4X100 relay with a time of 59.26. The team consisted of Sydney Brander, Hunter Eichert, Afton Brander and River Gonzalez.

Arlee’s Peyton Lammerding excelled in two of the throwing events. In the varsity shot put, Lammerding recorded a throw of 33 feet, 10 inches, a personal record and also recorded another personal record in discus. Lammerding threw a discus 83 feet, 5.50 inches.
