Richard (Dick) Victor Orr
Richard (Dick) Victor Orr passed away at his home in St. Ignatius, March 20, 2018, at the age of 83.
Dick was the youngest of 14 children born to William and Caroline (Felsman) Orr in St. Ignatius, where he attended school and has resided most of his life. After High School, Dick joined the military’s 101st Airborne Division and spent the next 6 years at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he became a qualified Paratrooper and a Radio Telephone Operator. Upon his honorable discharge July 31, 1962, he returned to St. Ignatius.
Dick married Gladys Hammond on October 8, 1965 in Sandpoint, Idaho. They settled in with her 7 children and a menagerie of animals on their Post Creek acreage. Not only did they raise up those 7, but later met the challenge of raising up 3 grand boys: Will Hammond, Matt Friedlander, and Jiry Hammond. They were married for 30 years. Gladys passed away January 22, 1995.
Dick will be remembered as an intelligent and generous man, a talented carpenter/plumber, and an especially wonderful Grandpa. Usually a homebody, he was still up for a good adventure from time-to-time: flying off to Alaska to see the sights and spend time with his daughter Karen and her family, or off to Seattle to visit his grandson Will and family. The latest of these adventures included a trip to Disneyland, where his world famous smile lit up the park.
Dick was preceded in death by his siblings: Henry Orr, George Orr, Joe Orr, Alice Orr, Bill Orr, Ray Orr, Leroy Orr, Leona Mary Orr, Alvin Orr Leona May Orr, Frank Orr, and Yvonne Orr. IN PEACE I WILL LIE DOWN AND SLEEP, FOR YOU ALONE, LORD, MAKE ME DWELL IN SAFETY. Ps4:8.
