Prescribed fires at the National Bison Range will be overseen this spring, according to a press release from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire.

Controlled burns are planned to be conducted between April and June 1.

Short-term delays or closures of the auto tour routes may occur when the burns are being overseen.

Approximately 1,900 acres of fire-dependent habitat, including portions of the upper Elk and Pauline Creek drainages, and grassland on the west end of the Prairie Drive will be burned, using a combination of hand and aerial ignition tactics.
