Professionals provide insight to Polson students

Students at Polson High School got acquainted with various careers during the first Career Connection Day on Monday, April 23.
Organized by Betsy Wade, counselor at the school, more than 50 presenters talked to the students.
“It’s the whole school” that participated, Wade said, adding “we decided to go big” for the first Career Connection Day.
Wade said that she organized the career day as she is “very passionate about career development,” and with the support of administration, she organized an advisory group she’s called a Career Development Coalition, that generated ideas for a career day.
Community members, various professionals and teachers make up the group.
Through networking, Wade said that a broad offering of careers were available to students.
Students seemed to respond well to the career day, with Wade hearing students describe the opportunity as “cool.”
Students followed their normal schedules throughout the day, Wade explained.
Speakers were paired up with classrooms related to their career field.
“For the computer classes, we got a person from Amazon. In the English classes, we’ve got a variety of people” ranging from television media to real estate, she said.
