An investigation regarding an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student in the Ronan School District has been completed.

In a statement from Ronan Superintendent Mark Johnston, the Title IX investigation began after administration learned of allegations of the relationship Jan. 16.

“The investigation substantiated the allegations, and the teacher resigned his position with the District,” Johnston stated.

During a special board of education meeting Jan. 22, the board accepted the teacher’s resignation. His identity has not yet been confirmed, although Johnston did state that the male teacher taught middle school English and was also an assistant boys’ basketball coach.

The matter, he added, has since been referred to the Office of Public Instruction.

“As a District, we are beyond disappointed that one of our own would betray the values that define Ronan School District, and will support any student who is subject to inappropriate conduct from a staff member,” Johnston wrote.

The district’s attorney could not be immediately reached for further comment.
