Bulldogs wrestling performs strong at Western Montana Duals
Mission High School wrestling coach Lyle Cronk knows the Class B-C state wrestling playoffs is both close and far away.
Cronk knows his team has a lot more wrestling and preparation work between then and now in order for his Bulldogs to achieve optimal results. During the Western Montana Duals, the Bulldogs took another step in the proverbial right direction.
“I think the Western Montana Duals was a good outing for us,” Cronk said. “We are very pleased overall with the performance of our team, especially on Friday. We lost to the Sentinel JV team by one point. We had a lot of really good matches. We had three kids come from behind to win matches at the dual and that was an outstanding thing on Friday.”
Cronk said he felt his team made some “significant improvements” in the duals.
“We are starting to make some improvements and we are looking forward to continuing to make those improvements through the month of January,” Cronk said. Bulldogs’ wrestler Gus Bosley is one of Mission’s marquee wrestlers at the Western Montana Duals but another name that is emerging for the Bulldogs is Walker Murphy, who wrestles at 113 pounds.
“He is improving and has won some big matches in our first duel. It came down to his match to decide the dual. He got a pin against Sentinel and helped us win a tough match against Ronan.”
Cronk noted that Miles Anderson (160-170) and Chris Anderson (285) both had what he called “solid matches.”
Another Bulldog wrestler making an impact is Isiah Allick (160).
“He had another great weekend and having him back to wrestle this weekend was a good deal,” Cronk said.
As February rapidly approaches, Cronk said the intensity for Bulldogs’ wrestling will only “increase.”
“We are just trying to keep our foot to the pedal and not let up,” Cronk said.”
Cronk admitted he and his team will have a short time to prepare for Divisionals.
“The important thing is depending on how we prepare ourselves to give ourselves a shot and be focused on doing everything in our power to prepare to make a run for state,” Cronk said.
