Roundup

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Division of Fire is reminding the public that outdoor burning by permit has been closed since June 30, and will remain closed until the end of fire season.

Since permit burning has closed, D.O.F. reports that crews have responded to illegal burns on the Flathead Reservation. Those found violating the burn ban can be held responsible for the cost of suppression.

Campfires are still permitted, but are limited to 3 feet in diameter, as mandated by Montana State Law. A hand tool to mix and stir in water to a campfire should be used to extinguish.

Campfires should never be left unattended and should be cold to the touch before campers leave their campsite.

Anyone witnessing intentional fires or abandoned campfires are asked to contact local law enforcement or call 1-800-47-ARSON (81166).
