PABLO — Polson resident Kyle Basler has become a fixture in the winner’s circle when he captured his second consecutive hobby stock title at the main event Saturday night at Mission Valley Speedway.

Basler captured his second consecutive hobby stock title under turbulent race conditions. During the first 20 laps of the race, there were multiple cautions, red flags and delays as four of the contestants experienced broken axles.

Basler, whose grandfather and father were drivers, captured only his second title of the season in his second season, which is now Basler’s 10th season in racing.

Establishing a rhythm in a race with multiple delays can be difficult. Basler said the key to his success was keeping his emotions in check.

“I guess I just have to contain my excitement,” Basler said. “I really try not get too serious about stuff and I realize it might take me a few laps (to get into a rhythm).”

Basler, who drives a Monte Carlo hobby stock, said with the success he has had in the hobby stock genre the 35-year-old might be trying to move up to West Coast Late Models as he tries to advance in his driving career.

“I think the West Coast late models will be our next step,” Basler said. “I might try to move up to the West Coast Late Models depending on how things go in my racing career.”
