Scouts, Elks member erect downtown flag brackets
Wasp nests in light pole boxes in downtown Polson did not deter a group of Boy Scout Troop 1947, their scoutmaster and a Mission Valley Elks member from erecting new brackets to hold American flags last weekend.
Scoutmaster Sheri Connors-David had three scouts on hand to help with the project on Saturday morning, July 14. They were 13-year-old Star Scout John David; second-class Hayden Clairmont, 12, and 13-year-old tenderfoot Christian Ruther. David is just two ranks away from becoming an Eagle Scout, while Clairmont is very close to moving up in the ranks.
Flag brackets were purchased and donated by Mission Valley Elks, and Elks member and scout supporter Mark Joblinske was on the ladder to put up the brackets. There were a total of 14 brackets to light poles — four each at the corners of Main Street and 3rd, 4th and 5th avenues, and two at the corner of Main and Highway 93.
