Fatal crash involving deputy in Lake County

A fatal crash over the weekend is under investigation, according to officials.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell released a statement late Saturday morning stating that earlier at around 5 a.m., LCSO deputies were answering an emergency call in St. Ignatius.

En route, one of the deputies was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Timberlane Road, resulting “in a fatal injury to one of two occupants of the other vehicle.”

A second occupant in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital and was in stable condition Saturday.

The deputy was injured and transported to a hospital, but was later relased.

The crash is being investigated by Montana Highway Patrol, and the Missoula County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office is investigating the death, Bell said.
