A new banner was erected at the 7th Avenue Skatepark Tuesday morning, marking a milestone in an organization’s journey to expand the park.

Jesse Vargas, a member of The 7th Avenue Skatepark Association, dug out holes with city employee Walter Eggebrecht.

“This banner soldifies the fundraising process and makes it public,” as well as showing where the park is located, Vargas said.

During a skatepark meeting, the idea of having a banner came about, Vargas added.

The banner, valued at $600, cost the association $300. Vargas said Montana Sign and Banner in Polson donated time, helping the organization to save money.

Gypsy Ray of the Lake County Community Development Corporation said that as the group has worked to fundraise for the park’s expansion, community members have been surprised to hear there is a skatepark in Polson.

She also said that the city maintains the land, and the skatepark association is raising the funds for the expansion.

Following the completion of the project, the park will be part of the Polson park system.

Currently, the park on Seventh Avenue West in Polson is 12,000-square foot facility and will be double in size.

So far, the assocation has raised $50,000 of its $22,000 goal.

The group anticipates construction to begin on the expansion in the fall of 2018.

Currently, one of the fundraising efforts is selling raffle tickets for $25 each, with prizes ranging from gas to golf passes.
