A threat cancelling class at the Charlo School District was unfounded last week following an investigation.

According to Superintendent Steve Love, on Wednesday, March 7, custodial staff discovered a suspicious note about a bomb.

During an initial search, Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said that any device referenced in the note were not found.

Love said authorities were notified and as a safety precaution, classes were cancelled for the day while Lake County Sheriff’s Office personnel searched the campus.

Bell said that the office received the call from Love at 7 a.m.

“We initiated our protocol,” Bell said, adding that deputies were sent to secure the scene.

At the time of the call, school buses with students were en route, but were held at a staging area while authorities combed through the schools, Bell said.

Students were able to call their parents to pick them up, he added.

The suspicious note was taken into LCSO possession.

A further investigation is ongoing, officials confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
