Area octet garner girls basketball postseason accolades
Eight Mission Valley area girls were acknowledged for their skill sets showcased on the hardwood this past winter.
14C Arlee (19-7, 1296pts)
The Scarlets placed a trio among the postseason accolades list. Alyssia Vanderburg took all-state honors for the second season in a row, scoring just under 600 points this season along with more than 200 rebounds. Vanderburg has already surpassed the 1300 point plateau for varsity career scoring that included seven 30+ games this season. Fellow Scarlet Noelle West received all-conference first-team acknowledgement, while teammate Nellie DesJarlais was conferred with second-team recognition for her season that surpassed the double century threshold for points as well as reeling in more than six dozen rebounds beyond the triple figure demarcation.
14C Charlo (17-7, 1012pts)
The Lady Vikings placed a pair among the all-conference list. Team leading scorer Kaitlin Cox received all-state recognition for her triple century (300) point productivity on the season. Cox reset the bar for a new varsity career high 31 in her postseason finale.
Teammate Tyrah Hammond received second-team acknowledgement as second-leading scorer as well as rebounder.
NWA Ronan (8-16, 1089pts)
MSUB-bound Maiden guard Micalann McCrea received her second all-state acknowledgement in as many seasons, having led the conference in points per game average (15.96). This was her third sequential all-conference nod, having been conferred second-team recognition her sophomore season. McCrea also made all-tournament second-team at the Western A Divisional, where she closed out her prep finale with a double-double that included a new varsity career high 27 to go along with ten assists. Fellow Maiden senior Jaelynn Askan received honorable mention for her seasonal triple-double that included more than eleven dozen points and over a century worth of rebounds.
NWA Polson (2-18, 647pts)
The Lady Pirates placed Kaelyn Smith on the postseason list with an honorable mention acknowledgement. Smith was the team second leading scorer with a varsity career high of 20 points.
Two other players with area affiliations merit mention. Former Mission Lady Bulldog Trinity Lewandowski received second-team recognition as part of the state runnerup 3B Colstrip Fillies. Junior 5-11 post Brynn Jolma of 8C Winnett-Grass Range likewise received conference as well as State C second-team recognition. Jolma is an annual area visitor during the summer when she visits her grandparents, retired Polson educators Al and Billie McCrea.
