On March 1, 2012 the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes implemented a rule prohibiting non-Tribal members from harvesting mushrooms and berries on the Flathead Reservation. A Tribal member may have non-member children and spouse accompany and assist with mushroom and berry picking, provided that the non-member children and spouse have the required recreation permits in their possession.

The closure will protect native plant resources on the Reservation from damage caused by over harvest.

U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers ask Tribal Members who are harvesting mushrooms on Forest Service lands off the Reservation to carry their valid tribal identification.

For additional information on the closure, contact Tom McDonald or Germaine White at (406) 675-2700.

The City of Polson will host the annual Municipal Executive Forum March 28 – 30, 2018. The Municipal Executive Forum is designed for municipal executives to expand and share their knowledge, as well as to network.

This year, more than 50 mayors, city managers and chief executives will participate, representing 49 cities and towns from across Montana. The event is hosted on a rotating basis throughout the state in non-legislative years, while hosted in Helena during legislative years.

This year’s agenda includes topics such as governance, risk management, employment practices, emerging labor issues, land use and planning, and updates on current issues facing Montana presented by the Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney and state agency representatives. Also joining the list of presenters is Mike Nelson of the National League of Cities and Eric Nation of the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. This event allows municipal executives a great opportunity to engage with local, state and federal stakeholders. The event is created by the collaborative effort of three municipal resource organizations, the Montana League of Cities and Towns, the Montana Municipal Interlocal Authority, and the Local Government Center of Montana State University.
