Lady Vikings solidify reputation at Top-10 Meet in Missoula
The Lady Vikings, an MHSA Class C track team, have constructed enough of a reputation to earn invitations to prestigious track meets such as the top Top-10 Invitational Tuesday afternoon at MCPS Stadium in Missoula.
Against some of the top-tier competition in the state, the Charlo Lady Vikings held their own at the Top-10, and out of all of the contestants, Tyrah Hammond emerged as one of the top Lady Viking’s performers in Missoula.
Hammond and her teammate Carlee Fryberger both placed in the top-5 of the 200-meter dash. Hammond placed second recording a personal record of 26.50 seconds and Fryberger finished third registering a personal record of 26.61 seconds.
Lady Vikings excel in the Quad meet
Fryberger and Hammond continued their momentum in the Charlo/Deer Lodge/Drummond/Frenchtown High School quad meet Friday afternoon at MCPS Stadium in Missoula.
Hammond placed second in the 400-meter dash recording a time of 1 minute, 2.45 seconds, another personal record. Fryberger won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.51 seconds. The closest competitor to Fryberger in the 100-meter dash was Big Sky’s Haven Moss, who recorded a second-place time of 16.85 seconds.
Not to be outdone by their standout Lady Vikes teammates, Kira McPhail finished in the top-5 in the 300-meter dash recording a personal-record of 52.81 seconds.
Charlo’s 4X100 and 4X400 relay team also flourished. The 4X100 team clocked in a second-place finish recording a time of 52.13 seconds and the 4X400 team also finished second recording a time of 4 minutes, 14.40 seconds.
Lady Vikings’ long jump contestant Kaitlin Cox finished in the top-3 and has continued to cement herself as one of the top candidates to make an impact at the divisionals and possibly at state. Cox levitated to a jump of 14 feet, 6.75 inches.
Fryberger also showcased her versatility with a second-place finish in the triple jump. Fryberger recorded a distance of 32 feet, 9.50 inches.
Lady Vikings relay team excels at Seeley-Qualifier
The Lady Vikings’ relay team carried its momentum into the Seeley-Swan Qualifier Saturday afternoon at Frenchtown High School.
Charlo placed first with a relay team consisting of Kaitlin Cox, Tyrah Hammond, Kamryn Caye, Carlee Fryberger and Madison Hinchey with a time of 52.23 seconds.
Hammond finished first in pole vault clearing a jump of 8 feet and Destiny Manual also finished in fourth place clearing a height of seven feet, a personal record.
Cox finished first in the triple jump recording a time of 34 feet, 4.25 inches, a personal record and Fryberger finished fifth in the triple-jump and leaped to a distance of 32 feet, 4 inches.
Degrandpre excels at Seeley-qualifier
The Charlo Vikings boys’ team continues to get standout performances from their distance runner Wills Degrandpre, who finished in the top-5 in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter run at the Seeley-Swan qualifier Saturday at Frenchtown High School.
Degrandpe finished second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 58.39 seconds and first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 8.03 seconds.
Toby Odom finished in the top-5 in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles at the Seeley-Swan qualifier.
Odom placed third in the 100-meter hurdles recording a time of 17.04 seconds, a personal record and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.80 seconds.
Odom also teamed up with Garett Vaughan, Isaiah Allik and Landers Smith placing fourth in the 4X100 relay with a time of 47.36 seconds. The team finished behind the first-place team from Fairfield that featured Ryder Meyer, Libien Becker, Gavin Mills and Isaac Clotfelter, who placed first recording a time of 45.45 seconds.
Smith, who has made his name on the gridiron as one of Charlo’s most decorated football players, has now solidified himself as a top performer in pole vault.
Smith finished second recording a launch of 11 feet, 6 inches and his teammate Vaughan placed fifth with a distance of 10 feet.
Smith, Degrandpre pad resume at Charlo/Deer Lodge/Drummond/Frenchtown Quad
Landers Smith continues to solidify himself as one of the top-tier athletes in the Mission Valley with his performance at the Charlo-Deer/Lodge-Drummond-Frenchtown Quad Friday afternoon at MCPS Stadium in Missoula.
Smith placed second in the 200-meter dash recording a time of 24.10 seconds and his teammate Odom cashed in with another big performance.
Odom placed first recording a personal record time of 42.50 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Vikings relay teams again showcased their speed that has made them devastating in Class C, 8-man football year in and year out.
The Vikings placed second recording a time of 46.96 seconds in the 4X100 relay and second in the 4X400 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 51.69 seconds.
Smith finished in the top-five in the pole vault event recording a distance of 12 feet.
