Polson advances to divisionals; Ronan falls short
Any time Polson and Ronan face each other in any sport, there is always something intrinsic about to happen.
The Polson and Ronan volleyball teams faced off against each other in the Northwest A Conference Tournament last weekend, and the Polson Lady Pirates defeated the Maidens 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18.
“We started off strong but then became a little too comfortable with the win and just couldn’t seem to regain the momentum,” Maidens coach Charla Lake said. “We had several missed serves and unforced errors that quickly became our team’s demise. We have a young team this year, and Polson has seven seniors while we have one.”
Shea McGuinness had four aces for Polson, while Mikaela DuCharme led the Lady Pirates with 14 kills and Maggie Todd finished with 13. McGuinness had 24 assists and 12 digs while Kaylanna DesJarlais finished with 16 digs.
For Ronan, Madeline McCrea finished the match with 14 kills and Madison Clairmont had 13. Tiana Ulutoa, Madison Clairmont and McCrea had three blocks. Ulutoa had 52 digs and four aces.
Lady Pirates fall to Libby
The Polson High School Lady Pirates fell to Libby in three games — 25-13, 25-10, 25-9 — Saturday at Libby High School.
DuCharme led the Lady Pirates with kills with a total of eight of the 11 total kills the team accumulated, and McGuinnes had six of 10 assists. DesJarlais and Grace Quinones combined for 15 of the Lady Pirates’ 28 digs in the loss.
Lady Pirates topple Browning
The Polson Lady Pirates volleyball team bested Browning defeating them in four — 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18.
Paige Noyes led the team with a total of six aces, and DesJarlais finished with three aces. DuCharme had 12 kills and Quinones finished with 11 kills.
Noyes led the team in digs with 19, Quinones had 15 and DesJarlais had 13.
Maidens lose
to C-Falls
Ronan fell in three sets to Columbia Falls — 25-15, 25-15, 25-9.
“We struggled to get into a rhythm against Columbia Falls and put the ball away,” Lake said. “Unforced errors again were keeping us from getting ahead. Overall, I was proud of the girls this season because they battled through a lot adversity. We are looking forward to next season hopefully returning a lot experience.”
McCrea led the team with 19 kills, Ulutoa had 16 assists, and Rylie Lindquist finished with 38 digs.
