The Mission Valley has a handful of area standouts extending their athletic endeavors at the collegiate level on the hardwood of men’s basketball. The so-called multi-headed monster of back-to-back state C champion Arlee Warrior has a tandem who have joined forces at Northern Idaho College in Couer d’Alene. These are Tyler Tanner and Phillip Malatare, whose combined prep career point productivity exceeded 3,000 points. Tanner transfers from Dawson Community College, while Malatare will be entering his freshman season. Both accrued multiple all-tournament and all-state accolades as well as garnered MVP votes for their caliber of play in their state tournament appearances.

A third extension of the Arlee multi-headed scoring monster who is continuing his athletic career at the collegiate level on the hardwood is Will Mesteth. The Salish Kootenai College Bison are benefitting from his presence on their roster, where he has already turned in multiple double-digit scoring outings.

Following in the footsteps of family basketball tradition is Zachary Camel the younger, who has joined the basketball staff of Northern Idaho College as an assistant coach. Camel played three season with the NWA Polson Pirates before transferring to 14C Arlee his senior year, where he played under the coaching tutelage of his uncle, JR Camel. As a Warrior, Zach reset a couple of state MHSA assist records: most assists in a single game (23) and most assists in a single season (*282). It is anticipated that players under his supervision will see incremental improvements in precision passing as part of his tutelage.
