Glenna Sherick

| November 29, 2018 11:27 AM

Glenna Joyce Sherick (Nelson), died Nov. 17, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Glenna was an amazing person and was loved by all who knew her. She was born in St. Ignatius Montana to George Meyers and Madeline Marie Nelson. She grew up in Polson, Mont., alongside her brother Dale. It was in Polson that she met and fell in love with Paul Melvin Sherick. They grew up together, played in the band, shared common friends and excelled in all they did. Upon graduating from high school, they went to different colleges, Glenna went to the University of Montana and received a degree in Home Economics and Paul attended Montana State University. Upon graduation, they married and moved to Bozeman, Mont., while Paul finished his masters degree. Their first home was in a men’s dormitory where Paul was a Resident Advisor and Glenna worked as a nutritionist for the University’s food service.

After Paul graduated, he was hired by Texaco and their travels and adventures began. They began following the petroleum industry. They bought a single-wide mobile home and it became their traveling home for many years! They also rapidly produced three children. They lived in Wyoming, North Dakota, Texas and finally settled in Colorado in the early 1970s. Glenna held down the fort, raised her three children and changed her lifestyle and friends many times throughout this time period.

In Colorado, they set down roots in Broomfield. Glenna supported her husband and his business ventures, went back to school and earned her teaching certificate, and started a career that touched and influenced the lives of thousands of people. She began teaching at Merritt Hutton Junior High and quickly transitioned to Thornton High School where she taught for many years in the Consumer and Family Studies department until her retirement.

Upon retirement, she cared for her husband and her mother until they both passed away. She was also instrumental in running their business, S&W Petroleum Consultants.

In later years, she went daily to water aerobics and won the Broomfield Silver Sneakers Award several times. She attended weekly Bible Study and was an avid searcher of the truth and faith.

She traveled the world with her friends and family. Glenna played a major part in the successes of her grandchildren. She attended nearly every event as they grew up and supported them through high school and college and even as they began their careers. She was never afraid of adventures and experiencing life to the fullest.

She volunteered in the library at Cotton Creek Elementary and served lunches at the Broomfield Senior Center up until a week before her death. She gave to her community and touched many lives.

She loved her family and friends, gardening, collecting Santa Clauses and nativity sets. Glenna also had a deep love for animals. She had dogs, cats, ferrets, fish, birds and goats. Her sense of humor and wisdom kept people around her like a moth to a flame. She was anything but ordinary, she was extraordinary. She will be missed by many but her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren because she taught by example and we all carry a tiny bit of her flame in all of us.

She is survived by her brother, Dale Nelson (Montana); children, Terri (daughter) and Colin Ellerbruch (Northglenn), Paul Meyers (son) and Katie Sherick (Fort Collins), Scot Steven Sherick (son) and his fiance Joy Herber (Broomfield); and her grandchildren, Graham, Davis, Macy, Marilyn and Paul Sherick and Vann, Devynn, Trace and Shey Ellerbruch.

If you would like to honor Glenna’s memory she would have liked to help animals. Please contact the Boulder Valley Humane Society. Call Sarah Lamson 303-442-4030, ext. 637 and tell them you would like to give a tribute donation in the name of Glenna Sherick. She was also an avid supporter of the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

There will be a Memorial Service held on Friday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel at 9998 Grant St. in Thornton, Colo. Please join the family for a reception immediately following the service.
