The ABC's of Western Divisional X-C
Three different classifications from the Mission Valley area competed in their respective Western Divisional cross country meets last weekend. The top 15 runners received all-conference recognition.
BEA-st mode: Frissell preps for title defense as Lady Pirates hope for hardware harvest
At Rebecca Farm in Kalispell for the Western A Classic this past weekend, the Polson Lady Pirate cross country team took home two medals, an individual gold and a team bronze.
Beatrix Frissell, a.k.a. Bea, defended her Western A Divisional title from last season with a solid repeat performance. The race had its share of drama as Frissell was shadowed much of the way by Hamilton’s Brynnli Poulsen. Both turned in sub-19s.
Polson coach Matt Seeley, playing the role of play-by-play commentator, summarized, “After battling side-by-side for almost three miles, Bea showed her incredible strength to surge ahead just before the crest of the final hill.” Frissell shifted gears into what could be identified as her BEA-st mode, a phrase synonymous in some aspects to the rushing mayhem attributed to NFL running back Marshawn Lynch. Only in this case, the play on words is acronymic in pointing out Bea’s sense of strategic timing (st), knowing when to make a move. Frissell will now shift focus to defending her state title this weekend in Missoula at the UM Golf Course.
The Polson girls also got a solid performance from Molly Sitter, who placed 10th among the field, her fourth all-conference finish in as many seasons. Season bests from Gwen Seeley and Halle Heninger put the Lady Pirates in position for a podium perch as they placed third in the team standings. The beast from the east would appear to be the Hardin girls vying for the girls’ team title as their team placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 10 at the Eastern A Divisional.
X-Cellence the NORM: Normandeau paces Ronan Chiefs at Classic
For the boys’ side of the Western A Divisional, two area runners finished among the top tier. Both James Normandeau of Ronan and Mason Sloan of Polson turned in sub-17s for all-conference honors. Ronan’s Brant Heiner and Michael Irvine were within tenths of seconds from making the all-conference list.
