The Port Polson Players are proud to produce shows you probably won’t see in any other summer theatre. Currently running is the Montana Premiere of the Jones-Hope-Wooten comedy, The Savannah Sipping Society, now in its final week of production.

The show, playing through August 25 at Polson’s live Theatre on the Lake, concerns four middle-aged women who find friendship after bombing out of a hot yoga class. Their adventures run the gamut of witty, wise, poignant and nostalgic, generously laced with humor.

“We gals had a ball getting this show up,” commented Karen Lewing, the play’s director. “It’s exactly what the playwrights told us to do.”

The reference is to a recent phone call from one of the play’s authors, Jesse Jones, who called from Chevy Chase MD wishing the cast well. “She thanked us for producing one the latest of twenty comedies she and fellow playwrights Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten have penned,” said Lewing. The Players produced one of their earlier works, The Dixie Swim Club, in 2010, also a regional premiere.

“This team of writers has had their plays produced around the world and yet they took the time to give us a ‘Good Show’ call in Polson Montana! How special is that!” added Lewing.

The Savannah Sipping Society cast represents the Mission Valley. Cathy Gillhouse, Ronan Show Choir director for 40 years, has been with the Polson Players since 2001. Shelly Winebrenner, from rural Valley View, is a veteran of three-dozen Players shows since 1986. Karen Lewing, Montana Governor’s Arts Award recipient, is the Players Artistic Director. Guest Artist Katie Farrell, in her second Players season, is Executive Secretary at Missoula Children’s Theatre after three seasons as an MCT Tour Actor.

Curtain for The Savannah Sipping Society is 8 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, with a Sunday matinee at 2 pm. 406-883-9212 or PortPolsonPlayers.com for reservations. The show is produced by the Players in association with Mission Valley Friends of the Arts. Not recommended for young children.

The Savannah Sipping Society - currently playing at Polson’s Beautiful Theatre on the Lake - features Missoula’s Katie Farrell along with Mission Valley performers Shellie Winebrenner, Karen Lewing and Cathy Gillhouse. The show wraps up Port Polson Players 44th summer season, playing this Wednesday thru Sunday, August 25.
