The 2019 prep golf season got underway this past weekend for Northwestern A Mission Valley golfers with a tournament held at East Glacier hosted by Browning. Polson took individual medalist honors for both segments with the Lady Pirates also capturing the team title.

For the girls, junior Ellie Thiel captured the top spot with a personal best 90 as she starts knocking on the door of submerging into the 80s. Thiel’s best round last season was a 99 at the Western A Divisional, shaving nine strokes off her 2018 best in the first tournament of the new season. Cali Cannon took fourth, while Esme Yarbrough took fifth one stroke back. The Ronan Maiden golfers placed second with Macao Jackson leading the way for her team only two strokes back of Thiel.

For the Pirate boys, senior Trey Kelley took top honors with a solid sub-80, while Dillon PrettyOnTop led the way for the Ronan Chiefs with a 94.

Cameron Milton takes over the reins of the Polson program, assisted by John Kelley. Ronan coach Frank Ciez returns the lions share of his lineup from last season and commented, “We’re a year older, so we’re aiming to improve.”

Both Polson and Ronan are slated to have already competed in a trio of tournaments with the Whitefish North Course on Tuesday, Meadow Lake in Columbia Falls on Wednesday and the Mission Mountain Country Club in Ronan on Thursday, August 27-29. Thereafter, both teams travel to Frenchtown to compete onthe Ranch Club course on Wednesday, September 4, followed by the King Ranch course on Thursday, September 5.
