Lady Vikings eye Arlee, cross up tandem of T's
The Charlo Lady Vikings continued to build momentum toward the approaching postseason as they toppled the Lady Trojans of Troy and tamed the Lady Tigers of Darby last week.
Against Troy, Destiny Manuel and Kaitlin Cox both delved into double digits as they collaborated on more than two dozen points, while Allie Delaney was the leading rebounder with seven and Liev Smith, Teaira Truman and Carlee Fryberger combined to swipe almost a dozen-and-a-half steals.
On the road against Darby, Fryberger notched a baker’s dozen, while Cox was knocking at the door of double figures with nine. Delaney, Cox and Truman collaborated on reeling in two dozen rebounds between them, while Fryberger pinched a half-dozen steals.
Charlo will tangle with the district-leading Scarlets in Arlee on Thursday, in a contest with the additional prize of the regular-season District 14C crown as part of the mix with pride and prestige. The Lady Vikings will then close out the regular schedule at home against Hot Springs on Friday, when they will honor their seniors on Senior Night.

Dawgs edge Scarlets
in OT thriller
The Arlee Scarlets ran the equivalent of a basketball marathon this past week as they sequenced three games in a row one after the other.
This past Thursday, Arlee and Mission tussled in a rematch of their cross classification nailbiter earlier in the season. This time around, the visiting Lady Bulldogs would jump out to an early lead that held up most of the contest until the waning minutes.
The host Scarlets continued to chip away until they finally flipped the script that culminated with dramatic effect when they overtook the lead by three. Not quite ready to concede a game in which coach Mission coach Jen Brander elaborated that her “girls played so well as a team,” Syd Brander countered by splashing a clutch trey to knot the contest at 49 apiece that would send the game into overtime.
Though Mission would be hampered when regular contributors Addison Arlint and Afton Brander fouled out the last three minutes and change during regulation, any apparent disadvantages seem to have been negated when others stepped up their caliber of play during their absence. Karolyna Buck would turn a strategic three point play to keep Mission on top in overtime. Azia Umphrey would score seven of the dozen overtime points. Courtney Mitchell and Madyson Currie likewise made crucial defensive stops, caused turnovers while making the most of their chances at the charity stripe.
Arlee didn’t succumb to any residual disappointment as the Scarlets cranked out two subsequent conference wins to maintain their pristine District 14C record.
Arlee will have already held a cross classification clash at home with 6B Loyola on Tuesday, then close out the regular schedule with Senior Night against Charlo on Thursday. Coach Melissa Tiensvold commented that she is looking forward to a good game during the rematch as she anticipates veteran Charlo coach Bret Thompson will implement some adjustments to make round two a more competitive match than the last time these two squads clashed.
