The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to construct about 0.85 miles of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant sidewalk along Round Butte Road (Montana Secondary Highway 211) in north Ronan.

The sidewalk begins just to the east of Ronan Middle School at reference post 0.15 and extends west along the north side of Round Butte Road for 0.85 miles to connect with the existing shared-use path just west of the railroad tracks at reference post 1.00.

Proposed work includes construction of a 5- to 6-foot-wide concrete or asphalt ADA-compliant sidewalk. The purpose of the project is to provide safe pedestrian access to Ronan schools, the post office, St. Luke’s Medical Center, and various businesses.

The project is being funded with Federal Highway Administration Transportation Alternative funds and is sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Construction is tentatively scheduled in spring of 2021 depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding.
