Charlo, Arlee girls drop first-round games at state tourney

Top-seeded Charlo and No. 2 Arlee were relegated to the consolation bracket of the Class C Girls Basketball Tournament since both 14C District teams lost their first-round games Thursday at Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.

Arlee lost to Scobey 65-40 in the Scarlets’ opener, trailing 31-21 at halftime. Charlo, the Western C Divisional Tournament champion, had a tough time on the offensive end in a 42-25 loss to Savage, the No. 2 seed from the Eastern Divisional. The Lady Vikings went scoreless in the second period and faced a 23-6 halftime deficit.

Arlee was to face Wibaux in a loser-out game at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Wibaux lost to Roy-Winifred, 49-32, in the first game of the state tourney. The Outlaws will face Scobey in the championship semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

In another loser-out game, Charlo was to play at 2 p.m. Friday against the loser of the Carter County-Box Elder first-round game held Thursday. Savage takes on the Carter County-Box Elder winner in the championship semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday.
