I am Lexie Gauthier. I grew up in the Mission Valley and I attend school at Ronan High School.

I participate in many activities in my school and community. Between cheerleading and other clubs I am always active and busy. Approximately seven months ago I was interviewed by Ashley Fox, a reporter at the Lake County Leader. In our discussions I had mentioned the possibility of having an internship with this newspaper. Writing, researching, and reporting has always been something I have enjoyed. I found my love for journalism in sixth grade in my school’s newspaper class. There, I learned the basics to write many different types of articles.

However, as I got older other hobbies began to take priority. My interest in writing never faded though. I wanted to grow on my existing skills and learn new ones.

About three weeks ago I had the opportunity to join the staff of the Leader as an intern. I was beyond excited. The only problem was figuring out how to manage my extracurricular activities and this job. Another idea I had come across was if I would be able to get a high school credit while still having seven full class periods. With the help of David Myers, the Ronan High School counselor, and Kevin Kenelty, the Ronan High School principal, I was able to manage a way to gain a credit and still remain in my daily classes. Everything started to fall into place. After meeting with Joe Sova I knew that this internship would be possible.

As an intern at the Lake County Leader, I will act as a reporter. My involvement in the community will play an important role in what I will be covering. High school sports and activities at all school levels will be my main focus. I will be able to highlight our community from the heart of it.

I hope to learn and grow in my writing through this internship but most importantly showing what my town is achieving.
