B and C boys' conference hoop season heating up

Warriors exorcize Devils

At Noxon, the two-time defending State C champion Warriors exorcized any holiday break doldrum demons as they dispatched the Red Devils of Noxon handily. Greg Whitesell turned in a double-double that included 25 points and ten steals. Isaac Fisher hauled down eight boards, while Lane Johnson dished out a half dozen assists.

Coach Zanen Pitts and crew have a pair of cross county clashes on the road this week. The Warriors will have already faced the 6B Mission Bulldogs in St. Ignatius on Tuesday. Thereafter, a pair of District 14C unblemished conference records are on the line this Friday, Jan. 11, when Arlee travels to Charlo.

Vikings’ rally sinks Seeley

At Seeley Swan, the visiting Vikings rallied from a double-digit deficit to edge the Blackhawks. Roper Edward connected on a triple early in the final frame to tie the contest.

After some see-sawing back and forth, Nate Delaney was fouled as he hit a clutch layup with 16 seconds remaining to knot the contest at 44 apiece. His ensuing “and one” free throw completed a three point play to give the Vikings the lead.

Seeley launched a buzzer beater desperation trey in an attempt to reclaim their lost lead, but Charlo grabbed the defensive rebound when it failed to acquire its target to eek out the win.

Landers Smith contributed a double-double that included 10 rebounds.

Coach Reese Cox pointed out that “this is the eighth straight game in which we (won) the rebound war.”

The pristine slate of the Vikings will host the unblemished conference record of the visiting Arlee Warriors on Friday, Jan. 11. Charlo will then travel to Hot Springs on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Two Eagle drops trio

The Two Eagle River boys’ basketball team dropped a hard-fought, 46-44, game to Clark Fork last Friday in Superior.

Two Eagle River fell behind 37-27 after three quarters before charging back to make it close.

Dom Finley and Travis Pierre each scored 12 points for the Eagles while Anthony Charlo chipped in with eight points and Keasean Burke had six.

The Eagles host Plains Saturday.

In boys’ basketball action Friday, Mission fell to Missoula Loyola Sacred Heart, 85-57.

Lucas Vanderburg led the Bulldogs with 15 points and Jacob Hugs had 13. Matt Anderson scored eight points while Flint McPherson and Jedi Christy had six each.

St. Ignatius was to host Arlee Tuesday.
