Mission/Charlo, Arlee see action at Edgington Duals

The Mission/Charlo wrestling team finished 6-2 at last weekend’s Dave Edington Western Montana Duals in Ronan, while Arlee did not have enough weight classes filled to be highly competitive in their duals.

The Bulldogs were 0-2 to open the “pool duals, Friday dropping matches to Townsend, 55-18, and Columbia Falls, 53-18.

Mission/Charlo bounced back with a strong performance in their last two pool duals Friday. The Bulldogs doubled the Big Sky junior varsity, 48-24, and eased past Arlee, 54-12.

The pair of pool dual wins was not enough, however, to get Mission/Charlo into the eight-team championship bracket on Saturday.

The Bulldogs wrestled four consolation duals or “mixers” Saturday, and won them all. They outscored Libby (43-19), Sentinel JV (42-30), Powell County (Deer Lodge) (36-33) and Ronan (48-18).

“It was a great weekend. We had many great duals going 6-2,” Mission/Charlo head coach Lyle Cronk said. “Cole Gilleard, Isaac DuMontier, Darwin Adams, and Isaiah Allik all wrestled well and finished the weekend with only one loss.

“Cole, Darwin and Isaiah were 7-1 and Isaac was 4-1. Along the way they each beat some tough opponents. A pretty good start for 2019.”

Arlee came up short on the scoreboard in their duals in the Ronan tournament. In the pool duals, the Warriors lost to the Big Sky JV, Columbia Falls, Broadwater (Townsend) and Mission/Charlo.

In the pool duals Friday against Mission/Charlo, the Warriors’ only two wins came via forfeit. In a 60-15 loss to Columbia Falls, RJ Knoll of Arlee pinned Zak Gray at 126 pounds, and teammate Colt Crawford won a 4-2 decision over Ayden Role. Crawford pinned Kade Edgerton in just 24 seconds in a dual against Townsend.
