On Saturday, Jan. 19 in Whitefish, students from Polson and Ronan high school participated in a Speech, Debate and Drama Western A Divisional competition.

Twenty-three students from those schools qualified for the Class A State Speech, Debate and Drama Meet at Belgrade High School this weekend. Competition begins at 4 p.m. Friday, continuing through Saturday afternoon.

Those 23 qualifiers are: Julie Reiners, Reagan McDermott, Tayler Owens, Taylor Bloomfield, Calvin Nowlen, Davis Smith, Cameron Ball, Joe McDonald, MaryJo Smith, Makauly Morrison, David Castillo, Violet Anderson, Kenton Sisler, Nathan DePoe, Asher Dalbey, Meghan Speckert and Halie Smith, Polson; and Kara Holmlund, Aurrora Watkins, Taylor Jackson, Sariel Sandoval, Kyra Waldoch and d’Artagnan Dominguez, Ronan.

Reiners of Polson was the Western A Divisional champion in the Original Oratory category. Polson’s Bloomfield was fourth and McDermott was eighth in that category. In Extemporaneous for Polson, Morrison placed third, Nowlen fifth and Sisler seventh.

For Ronan in the Memorized Public Address category, Holmlund was third and Watkins seventh. Waldoch, Jackson and Sandoval went 9-10-11 in Original Oratory.
