Vikings tame Tigers, 57-45; hold off Horsemen, 76-66

At Charlo last week, the host Vikings added another set of conference victories to their restart of a new win streak after their previously undefeated season was interrupted.

Last Thursday, the Vikings outscored the visiting Tigers of St. Regis through the first three periods to build up an 18-point buffer, then withstood a small run by the visitors that only carved into the margin by a half dozen.

Landers Smith led all scorers with a double-double that included a baker’s dozen boards, while cousins Connor Koenig and Nate Delaney combined for more than two dozen.

The following evening, on Friday, the Vikings ended up trailing the visiting Plains Horsemen by a mere handful after the first frame, but put up a mega second quarter that flipped the script by the mid-teens. Thereafter, Plains managed to slightly outscore their host during both frames of the second half, but Charlo was able to counter enough of their surge stampede to retain the reins of the outcome.

Smith chipped in his second double-double of the week, while cousins Koenig and Delaney collaborated on more that thirty.

The Vikings travel to face Two Eagle River on Friday, Jan. 25, then host Noxon on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Nate Delaney surpassed the hundred threshold for season scoring, while Landers Smith crested the 800 point plateau for varsity career scoring.

Deer Lodge’s big first quarter was enough to secure a win over the Bulldogs.

Wacey McClure scored 19 points to lead Mission, Jacob Hugs had 17 and Flint McPherson added 11 while Lane Spidel chipped in nine points.

Deer Lodge got a big game from Dyllon McDermid, who scored 28 points.

Mission’s Matt Anderson led his team with 16 points and the Bulldogs were in the game for a half before Bigfork pulled away in the second.

Bigfork outscored Mission, 34-16, in the second half.

Flint McPherson and Jedi Christy each added eight points for the Bulldogs while Jacob Hugs scored six.

Bigfork’s Anders Epperly had 12 assists as he set the all-class state assists record set by Randy Robinson in 1992, previously 691. Epperly’ has 699. He also scored 7 points.

Bigfork head coach Sam Tudor earned his 100th career win while Colton Reichenbach scored a career-high 26 points. Logan Gillard added 22.
